Boba Threat #13
Skater Bio: As much as I enjoy sport, I have always leaned towards independent sports as I tend to get a tad too “competitive”, and I am so awkward I couldn’t bring myself to join a team. However, after considering it for a while I finally encountered the Minxters at the Ink For Heroes tattoo convention and was determined to give it a go. I have great memories of skating around the village in my 101 Dalmatian skates as a child, but nothing could have prepared me for roller derby.
It took a few months, but I attended in October 2013 and I haven’t looked back since. The sport is insane. Full contact, speed skating, offence, defence, and so much more make up this badass sport, and to be a part of it is just awesome. Having being labelled chilled out in most aspects of life, it is nice to be able to let my anger out on track (and more appropriate than constantly swearing.) I’m usually such a shy and awkward person, but I now have some truly awesome friends through roller derby, and they have really boosted my confidence. Having something fun to look forward to at least twice a week is great too. I don’t know what I did before joining the York Minxters, my only regret is that I didn’t find them sooner.
Favourite Position: Blocking.
Worst Injury: Nothing serious as yet, although my coccyx… Just ouch.
Proudest Derby Moment: I got Skater of the Month a while back, that was amazing! Full marks in my rules test was pretty sweet too, and winning Most Festive two years running. I love Christmas.
Started Skating: October 2013
Song To Skate To: We may be here a while, I could make an entire playlist! Love some punk, metal, and riot grrrl.
Alter Ego: I work at Nestlé as an apprentice, doing anything they will let me do really! Away from work I am a crazy dog lady, and Star Wars and Harry Potter fanatic.
