Whether it's a teammate whose laterals you envy, or an international-level player, we all have skaters we want to be. To get you inspired, we're taking a look at 7 of the world's best roller derby players.

1. Scald Eagle (Rose City Rollers)

This Colorado-born jammer has been involved with derby since 2010, though her background in ice hockey helped give her a head-start on those important skating skills. Known for her distinctive face-paint, Scald Eagle was named MVP for the 2015 International WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Dallas, Scald's jukey jamming style help secure Rose City Rollers' victory in the 2015 WFTDA Championships.

2. Stefanie Mainey (London Roller Girls)

The Captain of Team England for the 2011 World Cup, Stefanie Mainey is a blocker at heart, but her performance in the WFTDA Championships this year proves she can jam her team out of a tight spot. Having skated for LRG since their founding year in 2006, roller derby has been a cornerstone of Mainey's life since: as well as dedicating herself to the sport, her wife, Olivia Coupe (who sometimes goes by the derby name “Liv or Die”) is a fellow LRG skater.

3. Christy Demons (Victorian Roller Derby League)

Having skated for 8 years, Christy Demons made a huge impression at 2015's WFTDA Championships, as her jamming brought Victorian Roller Derby League within grasping reach of an unprecedented win against Gotham. This analytical skater enjoys playing the pivot, as she is equally comfortable in a jamming or blocking position, though her quick, light footwork at Champs made her a key jammer for her team.

4. Bonnie Thunders (Gotham Girls Roller Derby)

One of the most famous names in roller derby, Bonnie Thunders is a world-class jammer with a long and somewhat terrifying track record. Bonnie has skated with Gotham since 2006, becoming Team Captain of the league's All-Star roster in 2009, and has struck fear into the hearts and minds of opposition skaters since with her quick, aggressive, take-no-prisoners style.

5. Rogue Runner (London Roller Girls)

This South London-based personal trainer never seems to run out of energy, on track or off. With her own roller derby fitness site, “Fitness Gone Rogue”, as well as commitments to playing for Team England and LRG's All-Star team, this lightening-fast jammer is a great inspiration for both skating and overall fitness.

6. Fifi Nomenon (Texecutioners)

Currently skating for the Texecutioners, Fifi Nomenon began her flat-track derby career back in 2010 with the Angel City Derby Girls, and has since switched teams several times. Having skated banked-track derby before her switch to WFTDA, Fifi quickly became one of the world's greatest jammers on the flat track, as we all saw at 2015 WFTDA Championships.

7. Sexy Slaydie (Gotham Girls Roller Derby)

One of the more penalty-heavy players for Gotham, Slaydie is a giant in size as well as reputation, with an off-skates height of 6ft 1. A blocker by nature, Slaydie is a fierce blocker who aims to hit hard, breaking her nose twice in 2012 alone, and undoubtedly causing significantly more damage to her opponents.
